Pepsico India invests 778 crores to set up food plant in Assam.

The beverage and food manufacturing giant PepsiCo going to invest Rs 778 crore to set up its first food manufacturing plant in the northeast at Nalbari. The ‘bhumi puja was performed by Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday, 6th Sept. 2023.
Pepsi Co greenfield plant will be spread over an area of 44.2 acres at Banekuchi, The plant is proposed to be running in 2025 and aims to provide direct & indirect employment opportunities to 500 people from Assam.
Pepsi Co India gives strengthen to local farmers through improved technology, high quality seeds, disease control measures and affordable machinary with the goal of sourcing 50,000 tonnes of potatoes from the stateto produce its iconic brand Lay’s. The plant will also generate demand for cold storage capacity of 60,000 tonnes over the next few years. the company said.
In India, Pepsi Co sells brands like Pepsi, Lay’s, Kurkure, Tropicana, Gatorade and Quaker.Pepsi Co India has signed a tripartite MoU with Assam skill Development Mission and Directorate of Employment & Craftsman training to enhance Women employabilityin the region.
India is among the fastest growing markets for Pepsi Co and it started operation in 1989. “Through the creation of employment opportunities and by empowering the farming community, our aim is to support the government’s drive for self-sufficient in potato production”. said Pepsi Co India president Ahmed Elsheikh.
